Troubles after medicationPosted by T. on May 06, 2008 at 07:06:10:
Hi, I am an 18 year old male, and about three weeks ago i began taking antidepressants (effexor XR to be exact).
And this last week i lost my virginity to my girlfriend, it was good and it was what ive heard it was supposed to be like. we than did it again 2 days later and it was great once again, that same day we did it twice, but the second time i could not reach orgasm or even ejaculate. that had me a little concerned but i figured i was just tired, being only my third time doing it and only taking about a 20 minute break from the time before that. We also got together last night, but this time i was unable to orgasm, ejaculate or anything. i went for two hours with short breaks inbetween(which is fine by me because i enjoy making her orgasm, which is easy to do lasting so long) but i dont ever ejaculate, and i noticed that my erection fluxtuates during intercourse and has trouble staying hard. When i masturbate now as well i have a very hard time maintaining an erection, and even reach orgasm. A possible side effect of anti depressants i know is impotence, which i believe im having symptoms of now, but my question is, does that actually affect me being able to orgasm and even ejaculate, or is that a different issue i may be experiencing? Thank you for your time.

Second email about this subject today. Typically, anti-depressants take about 3 weeks to alter body chemistry, so it makes sense that you could perform fine a week ago but are now having problems. You are going to have to talk with your doctor about alternative medication. Individual bodies vary in how they react to different anti-depressants, although I think that all of them have some effect on sexual performance. So, talk with your doctor.

I hope you are using condoms!
